Project summary

In the area of eco-mobility, pilot investments in the form of charging stations for e-vehicles, the purchase of e-bikes and e-vehicles and the construction of a footpath and cycle path created incentives for visitors to the participating tourism regions to give preference to arriving and departing by sustainable means of transport. The e-vehicles were used as bicycle shuttles and to maintain the nature conservation areas.

In the area of water management, natural ponds were created in Modra and Purbach to offer visitors and residents a recreational opportunity.

The third aspect of the NemoNet project was the reappraisal of the history of the Huncokári in Modra. The topic was presented in the form of an educational trail and publications in Slovakian and German language, which was advertised across the border and intended to draw the attention of visitors from the Austrian municipalities in particular to this shared cultural heritage. A traveling exhibition on the Huncokári was shown in the partner communities in Burgenland.

Know-how transfers on bird habitats, nature conservation, sustainable tourism and water management round off the project and created cross-border synergies. The further development of sustainable cooperation was planned in partner meetings.

The project partners contributed to joint advertising with a joint cycle map that integrates all the measures planned in the project. A cross-border media cooperation presented the outputs of the project and encouraged locals and tourists from Slovakia and Austria to visit the Lake Neusiedl - Modra region.

Results and impact

  • Following the implementation of the project, ecological, resource-conserving offers in integrative quality tourism are available. Pilot investments in the areas of e-bikes, e-vehicles, e-charging stations and cycle paths have created impetus for sustainable mobility in tourism in all municipalities;
  • The free offer at Lake Neusiedl in Jois is connected to the B10 Lake Neusiedl Cycle Path and the B12 Cherry Blossom Cycle Path via the cycle path to the lake created as part of the project;
  • In Purbach, the free campsite with its e-charging stations is available to guests;
  • With the nature trail and the natural pond in Modra, a recreational and educational site for gentle tourism has been created;
  • The joint cycle map will continue to be used by all project partners after the end of the project and will continue to highlight the measures for integrative quality tourism implemented in the project;
  • The number of overnight stays and day tourists has increased for all partners despite the coronavirus pandemic;
  • The transfer of know-how has set an example for tourism providers in the region and the joint media cooperation has attracted tourists from Slovakia and Austria to the Lake Neusiedl - Modra region.
